I promised some more pictures of the finished quilt after I presented it to its new owner. The quilt was made for my FIL who needs to undergo cancer treatment. The quilt has a pirate theme, guess who´s choice it was?
I used pictures of all the grandsons, there are no girls, just to make sure :-). I also used pieces of their shirts and shirts of their fathers, so all sons and grandsons participated and I also had them draw some pirate ships. Since grandson #4 is too small, his mum tooks his handprints. I for one liked the finished result.

Repairs

A couple of years ago, the daugther of friends of ours of ours got sick and all our friends made a friendship block which I turned into a quilt.
So last weekend this little girl visited us with her quilt to aks if I could mend it on some places where decorations came loose, so today I repaired all these little things and it looks great again. I am still surprised of the quality after it has been used so extensively. It has been washed and sterilized (in hospital) so many times and it still looks great.
Then I was very happy with the result, all our friends did a great job making their blocks and it was a great quilt filled with love and well wishes and I am happy to see that she is still using it with pride.

Baby quilt

Still working on the babyquilt. Wednesday I popped by the craft store, because it was quicker than ordering from the internet. They had a matching backing so I started quilting. I am handquilting the quilt so steady as she goes. The colors turned out nice, I thought it would be a bit pale, but the reds make a good combination.

I also heard that the course I ordered (nautical technique) arrived at my PIL´s, so I will pick it up and start studying. I am looking forward to the study.

Rocket quilt top finished

Today I finished the quilt top of my rocket quilt in between painting the cabinet doors of our new bathroom. So I think it was a day wll spent. I finished the top, the doors and I tried to book us some lodging in Austria for our trip to Italy, which didn´t work out so well, since we still don´t have lodging, but OK. I will try again on tuesday when my holiday offically starts.
On Friday a belgian won the Euromillions, which was over 28 million euros... I bought a ticket, but it wasn´t me. What I would do with that kind of money...

Top babyquilt finished

I bought these Moda fabric cuts called Martinique. They will become a babyquilt for friends of ours. Yesterday I had a day off and the weather was so-so, so I decided to make the quilttop, and this is the result:
Just a small peek, since our friends may be watching...
So now that the top is finished I need to find a nice backing and then on to the quilting.
In the meantime I am still making stars for the rocket quilt for the boys. And they are also coming nicely together. Will show a picture next time.

Rocket quilt

I saw a nice rocket quilt in a book a got from a friend and I really liked it, the quilt consists out of little and larger stars and in the middle a rocket panel. But I will let Nic draw a rocket and I want to put pictures of the boys in the rocket´s windows. I think it will be cute.
I also would like to make a memorial quilt for my daycare mum, and I would like to incorporate into the quilt pictures of the boys and drawing of their hands. Any thoughts or ideas what would be nice? And what printer fabric should I use?

And another question, is anyone in for a fabric swap, I am in need of dark blues, this can be with a small print as you can see on the picture, but not to bright as they are the background for my stars. I have a lot to swap, just let me know if you are interested.

Keeping busy

It was a very busy week with training, work and other stuff, so I enjoined a bit of free time with only son #3 and my quilting project. I can´t show you too much since it is a babyquilt for my BIL and his wife, and it is a surprise. My SIL chose the colors and now I am almost finished with quilting. This morning son #3 and I went on a quest for red fabric while the two other boys were in school.
After that a little surprise for my dad since it is father´s day here in Antwerp. So we bought some of his favourite chocolates.
I also tried something new, a beef stew pie, and it was very nice. It smelled terrific and it tasted very yummy, so this is a recipy I should keep.

Black and white quilt

I have been working on my black and white babyquilt for our futher nephew. He is due in April, so I had to start working on it, especially since in the coming week I will be at a course abroad, so I won´t be able to do much crafting overthere.
I will put some white fabric around the blocks and some more black and white blocks as a border. I think it is a bit dark for a baby, but my SIL wanted black and white, so I am thinking of putting some red in there.
Carnaval is also on its way, so they boys have to fancy dress on wednesday and they decided to go as darth Vader, so I have to check in the movy what he exactly looks like... I already bought the mask and cape.

Spain

OK, I am in Castello, Spain, a town near Valencia for my work. I come out of the hotel and what is there in front of me? A quilt shop…. Need I say more…
Unfortunately only few Spanish people speak English, so that makes shopping a bit tricky. But my Spanish is improving since I could pay the backer with the right amount just by hearing the amount. I am very proud of myself, LOL.
Life here in Spain is so different from where I live… People take time to have lunch and coffee breaks. Tonight we will go to the beach to have a typical Spanish diner, so I am looking forward to that. One more big difference is the time they have diner here, the hotel starts serving diner at 9.00 pm… I normally go to bed at 10.00 pm, so that asks for a bit of adaptation, but I´ll live, LOL.

Cars Quilt

Long overdue, I finished son #2 's Cars quilt. I started it during my maternity leaver and somehow it ended up my WIP pile. But it did finish it and he loves it. The front is made from cotton handkerchiefs that they sold in a local discount store and the back is a panel and some chequered fabric I bought on internet. This way he can use the back side to play with his cars.

So now son #1 wants a Spiderman quilt. And since I have never seen spiderman fabric overhere, I will have to take a look on the internet. Does anyone have ideas?

Frog quilt finished

The frog quilt I was making for son #1´s teacher is finished. I finished the binding and I only have to attach the label at the back. But I will make a nice label since I have time enough. It will be his farewell gift at the end of the year for his teacher. I hope she likes it.
But I am sure she does, since she collects all sorts of frog items. The fabrics have been bought from etsy or given to me and even one was won in the great stash giveaway. Thanks again for that one. Here is a picture of teh fabrics more in detail.
The weather over here is very poor. Rain and wind, so indoor time. The kids are playing with the Wii together with DH and I will start on the binding of son #2´s Cars quilt. I have already attached it on the front so I will hand sew it to the back. When it is dry and son #3 wakes up, we will have a stroll through the park to get some fresh air.
And we are all looking foward to the short week next week, since thursday is a official holiday and DH and I are also off on Friday, so we will have a really long weekend.

Blue and white hex quilt

This is my faithful little sew box that I use for my Blue and white hex quilt. As you can see, it has everything I need, siccors, fabric pre-cut, little wooden pegs, etc. It is the perfect little plastic box that I received free in the mail from a butter brand. It is a lunch box but I saw other purposes...
What do you use to put your WIP in?

WIP

This weeks WIP is a blue and white quilt. I promised some ladies that I would place a pic of the quilt as it progresses. I think it will become a great quilt, it will be completely hand sewn and I love to do it, because it is nice working with small pieces of fabric, I think. I can do it whenever I want, on the train, in the car, ...

Then I thought I would make my swap partners a bit curious. This is a piece of picture of one of the handmade things I made for the cupcake swap...

Ruben´s quilt & weekend

Last weekend, we went to the zoo in Rotterdam, called Blijdorp, with Niel´s cousin and her family. She has two wonderful daughters. The first thing the kids could get into was a nest of a weaver bird...
And then some turtle eggs...
Blijdorp is a great zoo, it is quite large, for dutch and belgian standards, and they have a very big playground, so no complaints from our kids. However, they were exhausted and never noticed that we drove back home.

I also promised a pic of the quilt Imade for Ruben. I only have to make a label and then it will be officially finished, but you can get a tast of the 'dutch'theme of his room.
At the moment the weather is very chilly and wet. It rains and we have gusts of wind, not nice, good weather to craft indoors.
